About Botox, Dysport & Daxxify

Botulinum toxin type A, sometimes called “Botox” is a neuromodulator used in small amounts to help improve or erase fine lines and wrinkles temporarily. Botox was the first botulinum toxin type A to be FDA approved in 1989. Other brands include Dysport, Jeuveau, Daxxify and Xeomin.

Typical areas treated include forehead lines, 11s, and crows feet. But, it can also be used for bunny lines, marionette lines, gummy smile, facial slimming and TMJ pain, creating a snatched jawline with Nefertiti Lift, brow lift, nasal slimming, lip flip, and excess sweating, and migraines.

What is a wrinkle relaxer?

How do wrinkle relaxers work?

Botox, Dysport, Daxxify, Jeuveau annd Xeomin are injected into the muscles and temporarily block the nerve signals that make the muscles contract.  It is the repetitive contractions of facial muscles over time which cause wrinkles. By preventing the muscles from contracting, fine lines and wrinkles improve or disappear temporarily.  The effects of botulinum toxin type A typically wear off in 3 months.

What can I expect during my treatment?

We will review your health history, discuss your goals, and come up with a treatment plan.  Once we decide on the areas to treat, the area is cleaned off and marked, and then you will receive several tiny injections. Afterwards, you may have small raised bumps where you were injected for a hour or so, bruising is unlikely, but always possible. You may start to see results in 3-5 days after treatment, with full results visible 14 days post treatment.

FAQs

  • The amount of treatment needed depends on several factors, including the area(s) being treated (such as 11s, forehead, crow’s feet), the strength of your facial muscles, and the depth of your existing lines. A complimentary consultation with our practitioners will help create a personalized plan for you.

  • Most clients describe the sensation as a tiny pinch. The needle used is quite small, goes in smoothly, and the neurotoxin is injected quickly, resulting in minimal pain. Numbing agents are not typically used for this treatment, but is available. Please let your provider know if you would prefer topical lidocaine or ice to help with discomfort.

  • There is virtually zero downtime with neurotoxin treatments. Often referred to as a “lunchtime procedure,” most patients can return to work or normal activities immediately. Some redness and swelling may occur at the injection sites but usually subside within a few hours. Minor bruising is possible, but rare.

  • Results of Botox, Dysport, Jeuveau typically last around 3 months, Daxxify lasts twice as long - it all depends on the treatment location, your muscle activity, and your body’s response.

  • While Botox®, Dysport®, Jeuveau®, Daxxify® and Xeomin® are all the same drug, botulinum toxin A, their chemical compositions slightly differ. Our practitioners will explain the differences and help you choose the best product for your needs.

  • Neurotoxin injections, like Botox, are common and low-risk procedures when performed by a skilled professional. The most frequently reported side effects include mild bruising, swelling, or redness at the injection site. In rare instances, Botox can cause temporary side effects such as headaches, eyelid drooping, or an uneven smile. These effects are typically short-lived and resolve on their own. Your nurse injector will thoroughly discuss all potential risks with you before treatment, and following aftercare instructions will help minimize risks and ensure optimal results.
